Based on extensive polling, research (see The Facts) and a pilot, Higher Ground established Soar to increase opportunities for private liberal arts colleges to access a talented pool of Metro Atlanta's high performing (top 20%) public high school juniors and seniors. Soar's innovative approach provides a bridge between these colleges and students actively participating in youth development programs serving Metro Atlanta's first generation, foster, low-income, and disadvantaged students. Soar aligns students to effectively compete for seats at highly selective colleges.

- First year retention rates of 90%+,
- Four year graduation rates of 60%+,
- Meet 97%+ of student financial need (if accepted),
- 60%+ of their students participate in study abroad programs,
- Small class sizes and an engaging learning environment,
- Research opportunities, journal article writing, and students can design their own majors.
Soar engages juniors and seniors through non-traditional blended learning opportunities with the participating colleges to inform students about the admission process, life on campus, life away from home and graduating in four years. These juniors and seniors are also be guided through the college access process to effectively position them for future opportunities at peer colleges.
Higher Ground assists colleges in enriching their campuses by providing access to pre-screened 'diamonds in the rough' that will strengthen their incoming class of Freshmen's ability to Soar.
